JR/SR HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS 

Seniors - Please check your email to vote for Prom queen and king candidates.

Note from Mrs. Shy - If you have any type of paperwork to return to Mrs. Shy, Jr/Sr High Counselor, please do so as soon as possible.

3rd Quarter Honor Roll Reward for Jr/Sr High Students (Wednesday, March 29)
The 3rd Quarter Honor Roll Reward for students who made 3rd Quarter Honor Roll (but not 1st or 2nd Quarter) will be on Wednesday, March 29, at Chaffee Drive-In (weather permitting). Students will leave 7th hour and return to school at the end of the day.

Chaffee Parks and Recreation Department Applications (Deadline Friday, March 31)
The Chaffee Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for cashiers and lifeguards for the swimming pool. Lifeguards must be 15 at the time of application. You can pick up an application at City Hall or from Mrs. Mayberry. Applications are due by Friday, March 31. See Mrs. Swinford if you have questions about lifeguard certification.

Chaffee Parks and Recreation Department Maintenance Person Application (Deadline Friday, March 31)
The Chaffee Park board is accepting applications for a part-time city parks maintenance person. You must have a valid driver's license. You will work from May-August. Duties include but not limited to: mowing, weed-eating, cleaning, trash pick-up, painting. Applications can be picked up at City Hall. Applications are due by Friday, March 31. If you have any questions please see Mrs. Swinford.

Honor Roll Party for 1st/2nd/3rd Quarters (Thursday, April 6)
The Honor Roll Party for 1st/2nd/3rd quarters (students who made Honor Roll for all 3 quarters) will take place on Thursday, April 6, at West Park Lanes from approximately 10:30 am – 1:00 pm. Bowling, pizza, and drinks will be provided.  Students should check the list in the hallway.

No School – Spring Break (April 7–April 10)
There will be no school for Spring Break from Friday, April 7 through Monday, April 10.  Students will return to school on Tuesday, April 11.

CHS Honors Banquet (Wednesday, April 12)
The CHS Honors Banquet will be on Wednesday, April 12, at 7:00 pm in the Chaffee High School Activity Center. Invitations were mailed to all Honor Students and Academic Letter Recipients. Two complimentary tickets were included with the invitation to be used by parents, guardians, relatives, or guests. Additional tickets can be purchased for $10.00 at the high school office no later than Friday, April 7. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

ACT April Exam (Saturday, April 15)
The next national test date for the ACT is Saturday, April 15. Students MUST register by Friday, March 10, to be eligible for the April exam. Registration can be done on the ACT website. Please use the school code 260565 for so your score can be added to your transcript.

Senior Prom Invitations -- Seniors Prom invitations have been placed in your mailbox.
Junior Prom Invitations-- Mrs. Werdy has your prom invitations and will be passing those out in class this week.
Prom Tickets -- Prom Tickets are on sale now! $40.00 per person. Please see Mrs. Swinford to purchase.

Prom (Saturday, April 15 at 7:00 pm)
Prom has been scheduled for Saturday, April 15, in the High School gym at 7:00 pm.

Cardinal / Chaffee Busch Stadium Tickets are on Sale Now! (Game Dates: Sunday, April 16 and Sunday, April 30)
Get your Cardinal / Chaffee Busch Stadium tickets now! The tickets are only $40 (with a $58 face value), and the tickets get you admission into two games:
Sunday, April 16 – Cardinals vs Pirates at 1:15 pm
Sunday, April 30 – Chaffee vs Cape Central at 4:15 pm
You can buy your tickets from any High School baseball player, coach, or 8th grader that is selling tickets.

2023 Seniors “Through the Years” Photos (Deadline May 1, 2023)
The 2023 seniors can begin submitting their “Through the Years” photos to Mr. Dirnberger. The pictures should consist of baby pictures through the student’s senior year of school; including team, clubs/organizations activities, outings, etc. The pictures can be emailed digitally or in person. Deadline to submit pictures is Monday, May 1, 2023. Please get the pictures to Mr. Dirnberger as soon as possible. (email address: [email protected])
 

Meals -- When students are getting meals, please make sure you get a reimbursable tray which consists of:
Entrée (meat), Vegetable or Fruit (both items are not required), Milk (only required for breakfast)
Al A Carte items can be combined (if it meets the above requirements), i.e., pizza or cheeseburger or chicken sandwich/nuggets with fruit or vegetable.

COUNSELOR UPDATES AND INFORMATION
Please visit the Jr/Sr High School Counselor's Office Homepage for announcements regarding  guidance services, testing information, and scholarships.

SENIORS -- Please make sure you are regularly checking your student email.

College/Military Visits
Juniors and Seniors are eligible to attend college/military visits and must sign up in advance to attend no later than 3:30 the day before each visit. The signup sheets are hanging outside Mrs. Shy's office. All visits will be during Advisory.

Scholarships
Mrs. Shy, High School Counselor, shares scholarship information with the seniors through their school email and encourages all seniors to check their school email frequently.

Briggs Scholarship Application (Due to Mrs. Shy by Friday, April 14, at 3:00 pm)
     The Briggs Scholarship application is now available. Mrs. Shy will email all Seniors a copy of the Briggs Scholarship application, and the application is available for past graduates on the High School website (chs.chaffee.k12.mo.us  -- Go to For Students – Counselor’s Office tab - Scroll down to Scholarship Information and Deadlines).  
     Every Chaffee High School graduating Senior and Chaffee High School graduate under the age of 28 years attending undergraduate college, junior college, vocational school, or technical school is eligible. Graduate students are not eligible.
     REMINDER: Briggs Scholarship recipients must renew EVERY semester and apply EVERY YEAR in order to continue receiving the scholarship.
     The following items MUST be returned to the Counselor’s Office at Chaffee High School, 517 West Yoakum Avenue, Chaffee, MO 63740 in a sealed envelope no later than Friday, April 14, 2023, at 3:00 p.m.
(1) Completed Briggs Scholarship Application (3 pages)
(2) Typed essay (see page 2 for instructions)
(3) Copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR) from the FAFSA
(4) PREVIOUS GRADUATES – You must also include with your application a self- addressed envelope with current postage prepaid. This envelope will be used to advise you of any amounts awarded.

CONGRATULATIONS ANDREW AND ELI NIX – FIRST PLACE DISTRICT HISTORY DAY!
Congratulations to Andrew and Eli Nix! Andrew and Eli received First Place in the Senior Group Exhibit at History Day for District 9 at Southeast Missouri State University on March 3, 2023, for their exhibit “Little River Drainage Project: Swamp to Soil”. They qualified for State Competition in Columbia on April 22.  Also, attending History Day was CHS History Teacher, Andrew Cannon.

The following students placed in the Top 5 at the State Beta Club Convention. All of the following students qualify for the Beta Club National Convention in Louisville, KY the week of June 18.
Elementary:
~ Rheagen Emmons placed 5th in 5th Grade Language Arts.
~ Rheagen Emmons placed 4th in Elementary Creative Writing.
~ Jordan Jones, Layton Musgrave, and Louis Rodgers placed 5th in Elementary Service Learning Showcase.
Junior:
~ Devin Schario placed 2nd in 7th grade Language Arts.
~ Will Kluesner placed 2nd in Junior Performing Arts Solo Duo Trio Instrumentalists.
Senior:
~ Andrew and Eli Nix placed 2nd in Senior Three Dimensional Design.
~ Gracelynn Stidham is the state champion in Senior Sculpture Division II.


CONGRATULATIONS CHS BAND AND CHOIR AT THE DISTRICT SOLO/SMALL ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL!
On Saturday, March 4, select students from the Chaffee HS Band and HS Choir participated in the District Solo/Small Ensemble Festival in Jackson.

Congratulations to CHS Student Council!
Chaffee Student Council “Dancing Devils” had 16 members take the plunge at the 2023 Polar Plunge on Saturday, February 25, 2023, to support the Special Olympics. They raised over $4,300 for Special Olympics and want to thank everyone that supported this event. CHS Student Council was awarded the 1st place Golden Plunger Award this year for their enthusiasm and commitment to this event. Also, Seger Ruiz was honored and awarded with the “John John Polar Plunge Spirit Award”. John John Atkinson started raising money and participating in the Polar Plunge when he was just 10 years old. He participated in the plunge year after year, but he passed away before his 9th year of participating in 2021. The Cape Girardeau Polar Plunge committee started giving away a Spirit Award (John John Polar Plunge Spirit Award) in his memory. The criteria for this award include: leadership / inclusion / compassion / enthusiasm / teamwork / respect / and positive attitude! John John’s family was there to present the award to Seger. Congratulations to Chaffee Student Council and to Seger Ruiz! You make our school proud! And, thank you to everyone who supported the Chaffee Student Council and the Polar Plunge!

Congratulations Chaffee Weight Team!
The CHS Magnificent Seven weightlifting team competed against 10 other schools at the Scott City Weight Meet on February 9, 2023.
The JV "team" finished 7th and the Varsity squad also finished 7th place.
We had 1 lifter in the JV division, Logan Horton.  He placed 1st in 5 of his 6 events and 2nd in the other. He single handedly beat Charleston, Doniphan, Kelly, and Scott City as the only lifter against teams full of competitors.
The Varsity side had 6 lifters including the only female lifter in the entire meet, Madison Pobst.    Our team also included Zaven Leible, Shawn Hollingsworth, Carter Cossou, Carson Spies and Braden Wicker.

Congratulations to Abigail Rutherford and Natalie Rinehart for placing in the 45th Annual SEMO High School Show of Excellence! This show displays 25-30 schools in the region with upwards of 400 submissions. Approximately 150 per show are accepted so this is a great success for them!

Our Chaffee Lady Devils basketball team picked up a big win and captured 3rd place in the Scott Mississippi Conference Tournament last night (1/26/23) with a 51-36 win over the Scott City Lady Rams. Great job Lady Devils!!

Congratulations to Westley Carpenter for being selected as 1st Alternate Tenor to the Missouri All-State Choir! The Missouri All-State Choir performs annually at the Missouri Music Educators Association (MMEA) Conference in Osage Beach, Missouri at the Tan-Tar-A Resort. The All-State Choir is guest-conducted annually by internationally recognized choral conductors and showcases the best High School singers from all across the state of Missouri.

Congratulations to our 8th Grade Girls who placed 1st in the Scott Mississippi Conference Tournament on Tuesday, October 18. These 8th Grade Lady Devils had an undefeated season last year and again this year! Way to bring home the championship two years in a row!!
Also, a big Congratulations to our 7th grade Girls Basketball Team who placed 2nd in the Scott Mississippi Conference Tournament on Tuesday, October 18. They lost to Charleston by only one point with a score of 27-26. Great job 7th Grade Lady Devils!

CONGRATULATIONS MR. CUNDIFF – 2022 SENDING SCHOOL PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR!
Congratulations to Mr. John Cundiff, Chaffee Jr/Sr High School Principal, who was recently recognized as the 2022 Sending School Principal of the Year at the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals (MoASSP)/ Missouri Council of Career & Technical Administrators (MCCTA) Conference.
Mr. Travis Wilson, Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center (CTC) Assistant Director, shared, "I have worked with Mr. Cundiff for the past 2 years. In that time, I have witnessed his continuous efforts for the students of Chaffee High School (CHS). It’s abundantly clear that Mr. Cundiff has a desire to see that his students are prepared for success beyond CHS. This year I have been able to work even more closely with him as he continues to champion career and technical education (CTE) in his school community. Specifically, Mr. Cundiff has supported efforts to enroll students in our MO Options program. This opportunity provides hope for students to obtain a high school diploma and gain job ready skills for the next chapter of their life! Please join us in celebrating Principal Cundiff on earning this recognition and award! We're so grateful to work with such dedicated educators like him as it means all the difference to the students we serve.”

Congratulations to Westley Sontag for being selected for the 11/12 Grade All-District Choir, and Corinne Jackson for being selected for the 9/10 Grade All-District Choir. Also, Congratulations to our 5 Junior High students who were selected for the 7/8 Grade All-District Choir -- Jackson Allen, Keira Biggs, Kitty Butcher, Alek Jaco, and Devin Schario. All of these students will perform at the All-District Choir Concert on Saturday, November 12, at Cape Central High School.
